Who Killed Professor Seo in Law School?
After the murder of one of their professors at their premier law school, students become embroiled in an intense murder case with far-reaching implications that threatens careers and relationships at every turn. Suspicion runs rampant while finding truth proves impossible.
Law School offers viewers a unique take on the popular genre of How to Get Away with Murder, following Yang Jong-hoon (Kim Myung-min) and Han Joon-hwi (Kim Bum), two accomplished law students each facing unique personal hardships.
This drama begins with an explosive scene of professor killing during simulated trial class and introduces its main characters and their backstories: Yang is a criminal law professor and former prosecutor who resigned after failing to convict a colleague and sponsor of the simulated court course; Joon-hwi wants to become the righteous prosecutor his uncle wasn’t; Kang Sol A (Ryu Hye-young) wants an apology from her law teacher for mistreating her;
As the story develops, Professor Seo is revealed as not being alone when the incident took place; Assemblyman Ko pushed him off the bridge. Professor Seo knows Ko is responsible for murdering her friend and informs him privately – showing he still possesses some sense of justice and won’t allow anyone guilty escape punishment.
Episode 14 revealed the police manipulation of a second autopsy report, while Ki Du-seong claimed self-defense against Prof. Ahn. Joon-hwi and Sol A raised suspicions against Ko as possible suspect in this murder during interrogations by police.
Joon-hwi and Sol A search for evidence of Ko’s guilt. Eventually they discover evidence pointing at Ki Du-seong being hired by Ko to kill Professor Seo. When Joon-hwi confronts Ko over this evidence he finds it surprising that despite knowing about it himself he doesn’t act upon it himself; nevertheless the two prosecutors remain committed to finding out the truth.
Season Finale
Law School has been an intriguing journey thus far, giving viewers access to real police investigations and court proceedings through students at Law School. At first it appeared unrealistic when their access was given so freely; but soon we saw them take on real-life figures such as prosecutor Jin Hyeong-u (Park Hyuk-kwon), public defender Park Geun-tae (Lee Chun-hee), Assemblyman Ko Hyeong-su (Jung Won-joong), as well as Assemblywoman Ko Hyeong-su (Jung Won-joong). Finally, the season finale wraps up many plotlines while leaving space open for another potential season two!
This episode takes an unexpectedly dramatic turn when Sol B’s laptop was discovered with a file corresponding to the prosecution theory of Seo’s death, insinuating her into the plagiarism scandal despite her protestations otherwise. Additionally, Joon-hwi now works as a prosecutor after taking advantage of Professor Yang’s assistance to obtain this job position.
Students’ lives intertwine further. Assemblyman Ko uses his relationship with Prosecutor Jin to try and expose Seo’s killer while Professor Kang attempts to protect her student from Lee Man-ho (Jo Jae-ryong). Joon-hwi uses his connections as a prosecutor in order to monitor Jeon Ye-seul who experienced dating violence at the hands of her boyfriend;
Professor Kang’s prior experience as a prosecutor could come in handy when trying to discover who killed Seo. He prefers teaching his students that law isn’t something you can always rely on, which may come in handy when facing situations not covered by their textbooks.
Kim Eun-sook’s struggles to free Le, a rapist whom she reluctantly sentenced to light prison term when she was judge 11 years earlier is also central to this story and helps make the murder case seem more plausible.
Episode 14
Law School is inching closer and closer towards its exciting climax. While Professor Seo’s murder remains central, other plotlines also must be resolved before it ends.
Episode Two opens with a flashback to the day of Professor Seo’s hit-and-run incident, when Assemblyman Ko was riding in his car at the time. Assemblyman Ko told Professor Seo that they needed to rush off as they had an important meeting; Professor Seo refused, accidentally bumping someone in the street and turning back around before Assemblyman Ko intervened by reminding him about his family and stopping them from turning around again.
As the investigation of Professor Seo’s murder continues, it becomes apparent that he was investigating a corrupt politician. Kang Sol A (Ryu Hye-young) has posted videos online which expose this politician’s misdeeds, including bribery and land scams; previously he even framing an innocent person for personal gain.
An intriguing mystery surfaced when Class Topnotcher Han Joon Hwi (Kim Bum) submitted a petition accusing university president Yoon Jae Yoon (Hwang Dong-wan) of land bribery, sparking controversy across campus and prompting faculty members to investigate further.
Professor Yang continues his investigation of Seo Byung Joo’s death and begins to suspect Assemblyman Ko as being responsible.
This episode also presents a dramatic turn of events regarding Jeon Ye-seul (Go Yoon Jung). She is exonerated but still struggling with an abusive boyfriend; unfortunately her father, Vice Dean of Law School, does not approve of her going public about their story.
While its plots remain unpredictable, the show also gives an inside glimpse into Korea’s legal system and lawyers. One episode featured a former prosecutor imprisoned for accepting bribes; similarly, other episodes highlighted how some prosecutors sometimes misuse their authority by framing innocent people.
Episode 15
The murder of professor Seo Byung-Ju caused an uproar at Hankuk University and made international headlines, as first-year students tried to piece together who killed their professor. Yang Jong-hoon initially emerged as the main suspect; however, recent revelations pointed at Han Joon-hwi as being responsible.
Sol-B is upset by Professor Kang’s refusal to allow laptops in class and threatens legal action against him over this decision. Meanwhile, she discovers a file on her laptop which links her directly with Byung-Ju’s plagiarism allegation; suggesting she was the one responsible.
Joon Hwi raised in a video call the possibility that Assemblyman Ko may have been joined by someone else when killing Professor Seo; perhaps this person could have been an accomplice to Lee Man-ho’s act of murdering Professor Seo.
Assemblyman Ko is planning to exploit this situation by making students feel helpless. Additionally, he plans on dispersing any evidence these children have collected by persuading them to start a petition that will prevent police from arresting him.
Law School Who Killed Professor Seo’s final episode features an eye-opening flashback that provides us with all of the answers we were hoping to hear. On the day of Seo’s murder, he was on his way to meet Assemblyman Ko for sponsorship of his simulation court when he was struck by a car rushing past him at full speed through an underpass doorway and was killed instantly.
Kang Sol, Han Joon-hwi and others collaborate to uncover the truth of Seo’s death. They even manage to track down an eyewitness who looks just like her victim – though how they will bring Assemblyman Ko to justice remains uncertain.
